: Amid mounting geostrategic pressure on the global information space, reflected in the United Nations (UN) 2025 Global Risk Report, concern about disinformation undermining climate action continues to grow. This led to the inclusion of the issue of information integrity for the first time ever in the action agenda of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in November 2025. In January 2026, the EU endorsed the UN declaration on information integrity on climate change. Lire l'article complet sur :
: By standard accounts, there are fifty-four constitutions across the federal, state, and territorial governments of the United States. But in fact, there are 230 other governmental constitutions that currently govern peoples and territories within the United States. These constitutions not only flow from a sovereignty that existed prior to the United States but also came out of a legal movement that asserted its independence from both the U.S. Constitution and state constitutions. : Preoccupation with the ongoing armed conflict in Iran has diverted attention from the grim aftermath of Iran’s nation-wide protests that began on 28 December 2025, during which tens of thousands of protestors were killed, arrested, or disappeared. Lawyers were prevented from reaching their detained clients. Lawyers themselves were among those detained simply for trying to do their jobs. Protestors are now being tried without legal representation before courts that lack any semblance of independence or impartiality. Frequent executions are now being carried out following hasty and grossly unfair proceedings. Dissidents who flee Iran may be subjected to transnational repression in . . . : Muriel Cohen’s book contributes to a burgeoning scholarship about Algerians’ place in France in the 20th century. It is part of a historiography that grapples with France’s troubled and troubling history as an imperial nation state. Cohen identifies her goal “to bring out the uniqueness of Algerian family immigration” by considering both their interaction with the state and the “multiple pathways” they took (p. 22). In other words, she reminds us that Algerians’ experiences have been more diverse than depictions—in the media and in political circles—have allowed. Cohen’s work traces the medium durée (p. 19) from the end of World War II through the early Mitterrand administration. It builds on previous scholarship. Structurally, the book has three sections which follow chronologically. The first examines the period of the Algerian War for Independence (1954-1962). Her chapters focus on key problems the French administration identified—housing, social services, and education—via a

: September 30 has been a significant date in Canada since 2013, when Phyllis Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation shared her story of attending St. Joseph’s Residential School in Williams Lake, BC, for the first time in 1973. As a youngster , she proudly wore her shiny new orange shirt, only to have it taken from her by the school. Since then, Orange Shirt Day has been a national movement in Canada where people across the country wear orange in honour of Phyllis and other residential school survivors, so that we both recognize and raise awareness of the history and legacies of the Canadian residential school system. This year’s Orange Shirt Day, September 30, 2021, is also the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. As part of its mandate, the Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization Committee (DIDC) of CALL/ACBD is committed to fostering awareness and acumen in respect of issues of diversity, inclusion, and decolonization within all sectors of law librarianship and related[...]
: The Just and the Good How Law Made the Western World William Magnuson Édition : 2026 ISBN: 978-1-647-12742-8 Présentation de l’éditeur In The Just and the Good , William Magnuson takes readers on a sweeping tour of the history of the law in Western civilization. He explains how foundational institutions like courts, codes, and constitutions magically transform the worlds they govern. And he argues that if we want to understand the foundations of freedom, justice, and democracy, we need to begin by looking at the history of the law. In each chapter, Magnuson explores how the pillars of the rule of law were built. How did the courts of ancient Athens create the world's first democracy? Why did the barons of medieval England insist that King John sign the Magna Carta? What was so revolutionary about the American Constitution? And why did it take so long to abolish slavery? Magnuson shows that the answers to these questions are not always as simple as they seem. Good laws require ingenuity, problem-solving, and [...]
