Delaware’s House of Representatives Passes Caffeine Warning Signage Bill (The Daily Intake)
: On June 11, 2026, the Delaware House of Representatives passed HS1 for HB394 . Under the bill, the Division of Public Health would be required to create and provide signage for retailers selling energy drinks or caffeinated dietary supplements. The signage must state that “energy drinks and caffeinated dietary supplements are not recommended for children, individuals sensitive to caffeine, and individuals who are pregnant or nursing.” Notably, the bill encourages, but does not require, retailers to display the signage next to the energy drinks and caffeinated dietary supplements. This bill is a modification of earlier versions, which would have required retailers to display signage in a publicly visible location next to energy drinks and caffeinated dietary supplements. The original bill had stricter provisions, prohibiting retailers from selling these products to minors and requiring individuals whose age was in question to present a valid form of identification. Delaware's HS1 for HB394 reflects a broader [...]
Coordinated Supervision Committee extends scope to include Eurodac (EDPB News)
: Brussels, 12 June – As of today, coordinated supervision of the European Union’s asylum and migration database (Eurodac) will be carried out by the Coordinated Supervision Committee (CSC). Eurodac is an information system initially designed to compare the fingerprints of asylum applicants and irregular migrants, which has evolved into a full asylum and migration management system. It plays a key role in implementing the Dublin III Regulation , which aims at determining the Member State responsible for examining an asylum application. Operational since 15 January 2003, this system is currently used by all EU Member States as well as Iceland , Liechtenstein , Norway and Switzerland . National DPAs supervise the processing of personal data by national authorities and its transmission to the Eurodac database (central unit), whereas the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) is responsible for the supervision of the processing of personal data at the central unit and its transmission to the Member States. Wisconsin Representative Introduces “REAL Butter Act” to Regulate Synthesized Butter Product Labels (The Daily Intake)
: On June 22, 2026, U.S. Representative Tony Wied [R-WI] introduced H.R. 9387 . If passed this bill would amend 21 U.S.C. 343 , the section of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act which covers misbranded foods. The label for a synthesized butter product or product containing synthesized butter would need to be contain the phrase “lab-created butter” or “contains lab-created butter” immediately before the product name. The bill defines “synthesized butter product” as a product that (i) is “marketed as butter, but utilizes sources of milkfat that are synthesized through non-agricultural processes” and (ii) does not fit the FFDCA's definition of “butter.” Since 1923, the Congress has defined “butter” as food “which is made exclusively from milk or cream,” and contains at least 80% milk fat by weight. This bill takes a targeted approach by specifically addressing synthetic butter products, but another bill, the Dairy Pride Act , takes a broader approach. Introduced on April 21, 2026, this bill would prevent co[...]
Citizens' distance from electoral and political considerations: what aspects? (Sorbonne Student Law Review - Revue juridique des étudiants de la Sorbonne)
: This article deals with various disciplinary fields, in line with the theme of the present study. In other words, the alienation of citizens from electoral and political considerations raises a number of important issues. Political science plays a significant role in this respect, particularly with regard to political thought and its impact on citizen participation in decision-making since the electoral process. In this context, there are constraints posed by the citizen himself as a voter, such as individual preferences and the dynamics of the choice situation. There are other constraints to which the candidate contributes, such as cognitive constraints and the cost of disseminating information, as detailed below. In any case, the principle of distinction arising from society's behaviors, whether those of elected representatives or voters, pushes the latter away from the public and political affairs of the state. On the other hand, we are exposed to another disciplinary field, namely constitutional law. I[...]
Pennsylvania Bill Aims to Set Enforcement Limits on Heavy Metals in Baby Foods (The Daily Intake)
: Pennsylvania's H.B. 507 , known as the “Baby Food Protection Act,” has advanced to the Pennsylvania Senate for review. The bill sets enforceable limits on the following heavy metals in baby foods: total arsenic at 10 parts per billion (ppb), lead at 5 ppb, cadmium at 5 ppb, and mercury at 2 ppb. The bill applies to “food that is pureed or minced to be easily consumed by babies or toddlers under two years of age.” If passed, H.B. 507 would be effective one year after being enacted into law. The bill also requires the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to test representative samples of each batch of baby food manufactured in the state for heavy metals. Manufacturers of baby foods tested by the Department of Agriculture would be required to label their products with the detected levels of the four specified heavy metals stated above, as well as the presence of other heavy metals identified through testing. H.B. 507 would join several states that have passed laws enforcing heavy metals testing in baby foods,[...]
FTC and Illinois Take Action to Stop Deceptive Conduct by Company that Created Thousands of Business Listings of Fake Local Home Repair Businesses (Federal Trade Commission - Protecting America's Consumers)
: The U.S. Department of Justice, on behalf of the Federal Trade Commission, and the state of Illinois sued Chicago-based company Premium Home Service (PHS) and its owner for fraudulently creating thousands of fake online business listings for home repair companies to deceive consumers into thinking they were choosing reputable local companies for home repairs. The complaint also alleges that PHS and its CEO and owner Yosef Bernath posted fabricated five-star reviews that appeared to be from customers of the fake companies. PHS used these made-up five-star reviews to dilute legitimate one-star reviews from actual customers, artificially boosting the overall ratings of the listed companies. “Premium Home Service’s use of fake business profiles and reviews violates federal and state laws, harming consumers and businesses,” said Christopher Mufarrige, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “The Trump-Vance FTC is committed to addressing deceptive conduct that harms the American people and undermines[...]

: Brussels, 3 December - As part of its December’s plenary meeting, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) held yesterday an online meeting with Commissioners and representatives of Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) from the countries and the organisation with an EU adequacy decision. This meeting marked the second of its kind, following the first gathering in October 2024 . An adequacy decision is a key-mechanism in EU data protection legislation which allows free flow of personal data from Europe to third countries or an international organisation offering an adequate level of data protection.* To date, the following countries and organisation benefit from this: Andorra, Argentina, Canada, Faroe Islands, Guernsey, Israel, Isle of Man, Japan, Jersey, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Uruguay, United States, and the European Patent Organisation . Data Protection Authorities from those countries and the European Patent Organisation are key partners for the EDPB, playing a key ro[...]
FTC Takes Action Against Noncompete Agreements, Securing Protections for Workers (Federal Trade Commission Concurrence communiqués)
: The Federal Trade Commission today ordered Rollins, Inc.—one of the largest pest-control companies in the United States—to stop enforcing noncompete agreements against more than 18,000 employees nationwide. The agency also sent warning letters to 13 other companies in the pest-control industry that employ many thousands more workers, urging the firms to review their employment agreements to ensure they do not contain any unfair or anticompetitive noncompete provisions. The FTC’s action against Rollins—the parent company of brands including Orkin, HomeTeam, and Critter Control—is the latest in a series of enforcement actions taken by the Trump-Vance FTC to free American workers from labor practices that limit small business formation, employee mobility, and wage and job growth. Rollins imposed noncompete agreements on nearly all its employees, which typically prohibited them from working in the pest-control industry for two years after ending employment with Rollins. The company’s noncompete agreements prohib[...]

The Board held a meeting with Commissioner McGrath, engaging in a fruitful discussion about common priorities and ongoing work on areas of mutual interest . The Digital Omnibus was among the key topics that shaped the discussion. In an increasingly digital and competitive world, the EDPB supports simplification, but never at the expense of fundamental rights. Promoting a human-centric approach to digital regulation—one that balances inno[...]

Draft adequacy decision for Brazil: EDPB adopts opinion (EDPB News)
: Brussels, 5 November - During its latest plenary, the EDPB adopted an opinion on the European Commission’s draft decision on the adequate level of protection of personal data in Brazil .* Once adopted, the decision will ensure that personal data can flow freely from Europe to Brazil and that individuals can retain control over their data. In its opinion, requested by the Commission, the EDPB assesses whether the Brazilian data protection framework and the rules on government access to personal data transferred from Europe provide safeguards essentially equivalent to the ones in EU legislation. The Board positively notes the close alignment with EU legislation and the case law of the Court of Justice of the EU. The EDPB also examines whether the safeguards provided under the legal framework in Brazil are in place and effective. “The EDPB welcomes the alignment between Brazil and Europe’s data protection frameworks.
